Standing in Solidarity: Supporting Our Global Neighbors in the MENA Region

Thank you for your continued prayers and compassion for ELCA missionaries, ministry partners, and all those affected by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. In these challenging times, your care and concern are a powerful reminder of the strength of our shared faith and community. Due to escalating violence, some ELCA missionaries and their families have returned to the United States, while others are beginning planned home stays earlier than expected. Across the region, communities are facing the devastating effects of shelling, widespread destruction, and increasing violence—particularly impacting Palestinians in the West Bank. The humanitarian toll continues to grow, especially among vulnerable populations such as children. In response, ELCA MENA representatives have identified several meaningful ways we can act in faith and solidarity:

Pray with Purpose
Lift up prayers for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Lebanon, the West Bank, and throughout the MENA region. Pray for the protection of civilians, especially children, and for the safety and resilience of local partners who continue their work under dangerous conditions.

Give Generously
Support Lutheran Disaster Response (LDR) as they provide critical aid, including food, shelter, medical care, and emotional support—particularly for those in Lebanon who are facing urgent needs.

Welcome and Listen
As missionaries return home, consider opening your congregation to host them. Create space for them to share their experiences, deepen your understanding of global ministry, and explore ways to stay connected to their work.

Stay Engaged
Continue to pray, learn, and advocate. Follow updates from ELCA MENA initiatives and be attentive to opportunities for action. Your voice matters—engage with elected representatives, call for accountability, and work within your community to promote justice and peace.

Together, through prayer, generosity, hospitality, and advocacy, we can remain steadfast in our commitment to walk alongside our global neighbors in hope and healing.
