Committee Members Needed
Dear Partners in Ministry,
We are seeking your help in identifying qualified lay or rostered leaders to serve on two important synod committees — the Synod Nominating Committee and the Synod Reference & Counsel (Resolutions) Committee. Each conference is asked to lift up one representative for each committee to serve a three-year term.
Synod Nominating Committee
Purpose: This team helps identify and encourage people to serve in synod leadership positions.
Qualities we’re seeking:
Willingness to make personal phone calls and engage in conversation about open positions
Basic tech skills (sharing documents, assisting others with forms)
Strong communication skills and enthusiasm for the work of the church
Knowledge of church structures and/or access to resources describing open roles
Ideal candidates might include:
Human resource professionals or recruiters, administrative professionals of congregations, those gifted in connecting people, and pastors seeking mutual support.
Commitment:
6-10 meetings per year, occasional check-ins with conference gatherings, and at least one conference annual meeting. Independent and team work between meetings is required.
Synod Reference & Counsel (Resolutions) Committee
Purpose: Working on behalf of the Synod Council, this committee reviews and prepares resolutions for consideration by the Synod Assembly and follows up on implementation after the assembly.
Qualities we’re seeking:
Understanding of (or willingness to learn about) church governance around resolutions
Editorial and writing skills
Awareness of issues affecting the wider church
Ideal candidates might include:
Lawyers, English majors, writers, big-picture thinkers, and clergy seeking collegial support.
Commitment:
4–6 meetings per year, plus independent and collaborative editing and follow-up work as needed.
The work for both committees will begin in November, so your prompt help in identifying potential members would be greatly appreciated.
Please forward names of those you recommend—or your own interest—to Jeanne Jerks as soon as possible.
Thank you for helping lift up gifted leaders to serve in these important roles within our shared ministry. Email ecsw@ecsw.org with interest.
