ACT network (Action of Churches Together-International)

Our church agencies Lutheran World Relief and Church World Service are both involved with local groups in Indonesian earthquake areas and in the Philippines flood areas. They both cooperate with the ACT network (Action of Churches Together-International).

ACT has appealed for an initial project support of $784,000 for assistance to the people harassed by Typhoon Ketsana in the Philippines. An initial amount of $342,000 was requested by ACT for Indonesian earthquake victims and communities. Other appeals will certainly be coming.

The UN Agencies have appealed for $47 million for the Philippine flood communities. Under current realities, I wish them luck. A recent East African food for drought victims only netted 10% of the target. Crops were damaged to the tune of $164 million dollars. the request for Indonesia is being prepared.
